~A UNIQUE RESULTS ORIENTED APPROACH~
~A TOTAL BODY & SPINE APPROACH THAT ALLOWS FOR BETTER
FUNCTIONING THAT REDUCES PAIN & DIFFICULTIES~
~PRECISION SPECIFIC ADJUSTIVE TECHNIQUE ~
Founder & Developer: Dr. Constance E. Jones ~ Chiropractor/Acupuncturist
This is a ‘new’ method of addressing pain in the human body and it is one that brings ‘results’ for people.
B.A.R.R.S. is a body method that complements the chiropractic work.
It stands alone on its own merit.
Let it be known that my work and study is built upon the research by Janet Travell, M.D.(1) who had discovered trigger points and the myofascial pain syndrome. Dr. Travell passed away in 1997 at the age of 95 and her unique contribution was one of being able to confirm for patients that the pain was ‘not in their head’!
It provided validity for many people as to why they had pain. It also provided a solution for them to receive help after having tried everything.
Because her work was so impressive due to the research and concrete evidence of what trigger points do to a human body, President John F. Kennedy led Dr. Travell to the position of White House Physician as did President Lyndon B. Johnson. She succeeded in rendering a great deal of pain relief to ‘lost causes’.
Due to Dr. Travell’s work, there is a peer-reviewed body of work with blinded, controlled studies that are scientifically credible. She was the pioneer in this field of study.
For myself, B.A.R.R.S. has taken many years to perfect and it has now…resulted in a systematic approach in addressing what patients need in order to achieve a well-balanced spine and body. One without pain and restriction. It is an individualized system that is unique for each person.
Each person has their own ‘map’ in how their body is approached and cared for with my method. No two are the same. This is what makes B.A.R.R.S. unique and why there is no one else doing this work.
Patients who have seen different practitioners in the hope of finding an answer to their physical difficulty...to the point of giving up…somehow…have found their way to ‘my’ door. (Divine Intervention at its best!)
My dedication to this work cannot be stated in enough words. To be able to witness people who have lived with debilitating pain is beyond measure for me. From the simplest case…to the most severe case… my heart has received the ultimate goal in being able to help people. Results are everything.
WHAT IS B.A.R.R.S.
This is a unique approach to the human body to alleviate pain and discomfort, swelling, rigidity, sore and limited ranges of motion and for that fact…most malfunctions in the human body.
I have worked with many, many conditions.
This particular technique addresses the entire body frame because the anchors (deep tissue fixations)…is that of a sequence in how the body places them.
The removing of these anchors, aka deep tissue fixations, follows an individualized sequence. There is a beginning and an ending point. There are certain primary anchors to address first on your body so that the other anchors can be released.
Again, it is a systematic approach to release the body of the strong-holds that it has due to these trigger points.
The History of B.A.R.R.S.
This method came about out of great frustration.
When I first entered into the chiropractic profession, I was questioning why the human body could not hold the corrections a chiropractor made to the spine for longer periods of time.
Why did it take ongoing adjustments? Why couldn’t the body do better? Was it the ‘art’ of the adjustment that could make a difference?
I was taught that the human body was a very intelligent machine. A term is given to this fact and it is referred to as the ‘innate intelligence’.
Then why couldn’t this human body hold the corrections longer? Was it all lifestyle that truly allowed the body to lose its corrections or that famous word everyone has heard of…stress?
After years of researching, studying and learning many forms of adjustive work did I realize…that I was being guided in work that was not known.
I started paying attention to what my hands did. How they felt guided.
More and more moments of inspiration that would occur that would provide another ‘light bulb’ to go on.
As more time went on, I also began to feel an energy sensation in my hands. Things were changing.
Before I knew it, an entire system was laid out for me. One step led to another.
I trusted what I was receiving.
This work is a self-correcting method.
Once the deeper regions of the human body and spine are cleared, via this method, they do not return. The body…remains cleared. Corrected.
What had needed to be chiropractically adjusted previously…would now….hold for longer periods of time.
Professionals who dedicate their life in order to help others use the term of being ‘in-service’ to humanity. The word ‘intention’ is used to explain what gives a practitioner a purpose.
The American Heritage Dictionary(3) defines intention as an aim that guides action.
This is the case with this practitioner. It has been my honor to dedicate myself to helping others.
One could refer to this method as ‘energy’ work or better stated an an energetical art of healing.
Intuition automatically becomes a part of the practitioners work and much is to be said as to how one is assisted by a Higher Power.
It has been intuitively received and therefore…I give all credit to our One Source, who for me, is known as God.
I trust that I will always live up to what has been given to me, for I feel so very privileged to have received this work.
It has also been my dream to help humanity for there is so much physical suffering in this world.
WHAT ARE ANCHORS?
Anchors are where the body places ‘extra’ attachments via the soft tissue so that it can always ‘right’ itself.
These attachments are the ‘strong-holds’ of the body.
The definition Dr. Travell(2) uses for trigger point is this:
“A hyperirritable spot in skeletal muscle that is associated with a hyper-
sensitive palpable nodule in a taut band.”
These anchors are identified as concentric tissue masses that are similar to trigger points however, are much more identifiable with how they present within the tissue due to the various characteristics and how involved the anchor is.
The ‘anchors’ actually pull vertebrae out of place.
But not just vertebrae. Ribs, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, feet; Virtually every joint in your body can be affected.
If you can picture a mattress box spring and one part of the spring is too tightly coiled and the other part is pulled and stressed, you will be able to relate to how your body is functioning with these anchors. A true ‘tug-of war’.
The body remains stressed. Organs become affected and your body’s glands over-secrete or under-secrete due to the level of body stress. The list goes on and on.
What is interesting in having recognized these body ‘anchors’ is that the body goes to great lengths to preserve itself.
It’s what it does in order to function and survive.
But…doing so in great pain and discomfort. Debilitating at times for some.
The longer these body anchors remain in your body, the more tender and more complicated things become. Pain is now…a normal part of your everyday life.
Pain…that wears on you.
Trigger points affect all ages. Not just adults. It has been my experience that when infants and children and people of all ages can be checked for these preservative anchors, prevention becomes the norm.
HOW DO ANCHORS ORIGINATE IN THE BODY?
Anchors originate in the body due to many, many reasons.
B.A.R.R.S. addresses how the human mind translates it’s environment, both internally and externally and that due to both the ‘unconscious’ and ‘conscious’ aspects of the human mind, the thought patterns interpret into what is referred to as: body/tissue anchors.
B.A.R.R.S. also addresses how various physical traumas contribute to the dis-tress of the body.
When there is trauma….there are more of the deeper anchors. A chronic condition now occurs down the road for a person because these anchors have never been recognized by any health care practitioner. So much left undetected.
The anchors will also manifest according to the type of trauma or…degree of stress and overuse.
My research on this has identified the soft tissue accumulations and the characteristics they take on.
It can be stated that whether a human being incurs physical and/or emotional trauma, or ongoing variations of day to day stress, the body does decode in it’s own unique way, as to how it exhibits these anchors.
It has been observed and confirmed, that the human body has skeletal supportive and weight-bearing aspects and it is usually at these supportive regions on the human body, that the anchors occur.
Why does the body do this? Because whenever the body becomes subjected to physical, mental or emotional situations, the body wants to protect itself so that it doesn’t become further harmed.
The body rushes in and infiltrates itself with these protective tissue clusters hoping to cushion itself.
When the body is met with a strong trauma, such as an automobile accident, it automatically creates cushioned tissue bundles to protect its injured areas.
It is the case with other forms of accidents as well. The more serious the physical trauma is, the more anchors are formed and the deeper they become. This category is now referred to as the chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
The bad news with this is that the body has the need to ‘share’ its pain and to help it balance further, distributes these attachments into other parts of the body. This is known as referred pain.
So what was originally an impact site, is now, an infiltration into many regions of the body. The body is very smart in allowing itself to carry these strong-holds so that it doesn’t collapse.
Trigger points can take on fibrous characteristics, clustered tissue that fills with fluid which hold’s the lactic acid accumulations and are almost ‘sac-like’, knotty tissue.
The longer these attachments remain, the more painful they become. The more your body adapts to them, more are formed in order for the body to ‘preserve’ itself.
Understand though, trigger points don’t just have to have physical trauma in order to occur in the human body.
A person’s occupation can expose oneself to trigger points, due to day in and day out posturing. Emotional states of a varying nature allow trigger points to be formed. Slips, falls and jarring contribute to trigger point formation. Divorce, grief, terminal illnesses, chronic conditions all expose the body to trigger point formations. Many situations in life allow this painful state to occur.
Just as it has been confirmed with scientific research in that heart disease is prefaced with a chronic inflammatory process that takes years in the making, so it is with trigger point formations. Name almost any chronic condition and you can bet trigger points were the initiator of this process.
The process that takes place physically when the first trigger point series occur, is that of a more fluid-like tissue development.
As this infiltration goes further undetected, the trigger points then begin to multiply and then become more fibrous. With more time, some can even calcify with small nodules and minute scar tissue can even occur. The body goes to great lengths to preserve itself in 'freezing' itself so it doesn't become more compromised. Remember...our body is always trying to help itself. But...by doing so...becomes stiffer. This is why most conditions are so painful.
There are primary, secondary and even tertiary anchors that the body has manifested.
It has been observed how the body attempts to ‘right’ itself, continually, and this is what is referred to as a ‘protective aspect’.
The innate intelligence of the body addresses how to compensate for itself and therefore, seems to subtly and not so subtly…create various anchors within itself to preserve itself. Your body is always trying to return to its original ‘normal’. But due to the created tissue anchors…it has lost its ability to do so.
Until…these anchors are released! It is fascinating to see how quickly the body responds when this happens. Its almost as if the body “drinks up” the contacts of release. Finally achieving its rightful balance.
Makes sense, doesn’t it? So simple in it’s concept.
There are many books that have been written on the mind/body connection and this short presentation will not address that at this time.
Many authenticated authors (both scientific & non-scientific) have proven what occurs for the human body when placed under any stress or trauma.
On top of that, what occurs for a person who develops a chronic pain picture.
How it ‘wears’ on them. And their zest for life…finally lost. Too mentally, physically and emotionally drained to continue their search for answers.
I have found…that these undetected anchors are the ‘destroyers’ of many lives for people.
There is a method that can assist a person with such a chronic pain picture….of hope.
This founder and developer of this system, B.A.R.R.S. has had the honor of observing what the human body goes through, why it chooses to manifest with these involved ‘anchors’, and what happens to the body when the ‘anchors’ are released.
It is important to understand the reactive aspects that reveal when an anchor is released, and when it does so, the body ultimately eliminates the anchoring mechanisms and no further release needs to occur. You will actually be able to tell when the areas of your body ‘let go’.
The human body…finally…at its ‘perfect’ balance.
HOW IS B.A.R.R.S. PERFORMED?
HOW IS B.A.R.R.S. PERFORMED?
First, a complete and thorough case history is taken. Even childhood events are questioned. All possible information is received that pertains to what your body has been through in life.
Second, chiropractic instrumentation is performed via temperature and graph technology.
Third, palpation (using the fingers on my hands) of the spine, human frame and joints.
Some ranges of motion are also checked while you are sitting.
You are then asked to step onto the table by lying face down. The table is lowered automatically and your body and spine will be checked systematically.
The primary anchors are first identified. After that, all of the other secondary and tertiary areas. All of these are recorded into your chart.
These anchors can be very painful just to the lightest touch.
It is important that you convey this to me upon checking you.
I will also be able to detect the deeper reaction of your musculature in reaction to pain from these ‘anchors’ and will know how tender these are for you.
After checking you while you are face down, the table is brought up and then you are asked to turn over onto your back. You are now…face up.
The anchors are then addressed in the front of your body.
Your body, via your spine, is also being examined for nerve pressure from possible misaligned vertebrae and this is also being taken into consideration. This is the chiropractic part of the examination.
As you can see, a thorough assessment is obtained.
WHAT DOES THE METHOD FEEL LIKE?
You could say that this method is that of sustained pressure via one’s hands and/or fingertips.
Again, specific contacts are rendered where needed.
The primary anchors are then affected by a ‘degree’ of pressure and contact via my fingertips. A energetical ‘torqued-force’ is then introduced into the body.
Some anchors call forth a directional pressure contact. Some, a sustained contact. Some contacts are ‘angled’ in various directive force so as to affect the anchored tissue.
Others, a gentle ‘coaxing’ effect that effortlessly releases its attachment.
All of this work is very tolerable and I take into your account your threshold for any discomfort.
I dedicate myself in keeping this method comfortable for you.
This method initially calls forth a longer time session of care. Your first visit will be the longer visit & is usually about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how involved the anchors are in your body.
After the initial work has been achieved, half-hour appointments are allotted until you reach the desired results of clearing these deep anchors. It may take anywhere from 2 to 3 more visits of an intense approach to provide the momentum for the body to be cleared.
Each patient is different and a return visit schedule is very individualized.
You are scheduled no sooner than once per week due to the intensity of the care delivered. Your body needs time to reduce in its difficulty.
Each office visit is used as a barometer as to when to schedule you next.
Once the clearing stage is reached, you are then reduced in the frequency of your care.
You are then able to schedule at longer intervals between care.
The point that you have attained now, is the status of being anchor free (cleared) and the body’s patterns…no longer able to take hold.
VERTEBRAE DO CORRECT THEMSELVES WITHOUT HAVING TO BE ADJUSTED
What excites me the most about this method is that this system of clearing the anchors from the body, frees the muscle groups that pull the vertebrae out of place.
When the anchors are addressed and released….many of the involved vertebrae automatically glide directly back into place on their own.
Very little chiropractic adjusting is needed.
What is also observed, is the degree of holding the vertebrae receive when these anchors are released!
As a chiropractic practitioner for 29 plus years I have learned that you can try to adjust only the bony vertebra(e) of the spine and never achieve the holding ability it deserves. This approach solves little and the vertebra(e) return misaligned.
Thus, having to keep adjusting the spine over and over. And…perhaps…robbing the body’s ability to adjust itself! What is achieved by only this one approach?
It has always been important to me that a respectful approach to the body and the spine be of the utmost importance.
I also want you to know that there is no ‘twisting and/or turning’ of the spine in any way with any of the chiropractic corrections. I term my approach as precision adjusting. A specific and designed correction that allows full function for your spine.
The integrity of the muscular group of the spine is strengthened and supported by this system of approach, as well as the other parts of the body that will be addressed.
Healing at its best!
Let me reassure you…that this method is very safe!
In honor of what my patients have provided me in trusting me with their care, and in permitting me to learn so much, is there a favored quote that I have fallen in love with. I state it here so that it may touch your own life.
“Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame
by an encounter with another human being. Each of us owes the
deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light.”
The quote by Albert Schweitzer reinforces what we are…and can be…to one another.
Each and every one of my patients has been a re-kindler for me.
It has actually been because of you that this gift has even been received. You have contributed to my life in every way and will continue to bless it.
A dear friend long ago, ignited my curiosity about chiropractic and natural healing. In my early 20’s I was enrolling in medical school to become a Surgeon Podiatrist.
It was because of this friend’s suggestion and the trauma of what I had sustained to my own spine at a young age, via a horse-back riding accident, to even consider going to a chiropractor. This friend said: “What do you have to lose? You have tried everything else!”
This dear person changed the rest of my life because of their statement to me. I did not have to have surgery after all.
In closing, I’d also like to share a quote of my own making with you:
“God has created you with everything that you will ever need
at any given time in order to heal.”
--by Dr. Connie J
Lastly….you do not have to suffer and be destroyed by pain! There is an answer and I am committed to finding the cause of your bodily pain and discomfort. Why there is dysfunction.
Know that you can heal. And that you can heal anything.
My other approach in helping people is that of ‘teaching’ others why the body gets ‘sick’ and what symptoms mean. I am dedicated in teaching you how to teach yourself in how to heal.
As you embark upon your care with me, I trust you will understand ‘why’ your body is going through what it is. That there are explanations as to why your body does what it does and that although it may have resulted in pain….the body is doing it’s best to adapt to what it has to work with.
Welcome to your journey ahead into an exciting method that you will feel it’s results.
And more optimistically…to remain cleared of the very deep anchors that the human body has incurred.
You will be transformed as to what takes place!
Dedicated In Honoring You,
Connie E. Jones, D.C., F.I.A.M.A.
"May you always have monumental moments in life!"
LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY (LLLT):
We use the ML830® laser which is very effective in addressing deep & painful trigger points.
This is a passive approach and 75-80% of our patients can notice an immediate improvement in their condition. This will depend primarily on the type of condition and the length of time the condition has been present.
This laser uses specific wavelengths of light and it provides accurately measured doses of energy directly to the appropriate treatment site, which was not possible with other light sources.
One does not ‘feel’ the laser and there are no pulsating shocks felt, nor heat or other strong sensations. Some patients have reported that they feel a slight tingling. Overall, you do not feel the laser therapy. There are no side-effects to this form of light therapy.
L.L.L.T has complemented my B.A.R.R.S. method and has been very valuable in making the difference in a patient’s response and overall healing!
